POMFR: EU Criminal Law after Lisbon

Dr Joost Huysmans studied law at the KU Leuven and European law at the College of Europe. He holds a Ph.D. in criminal law from the KU Leuven, writing his dissertation on the procedural rights of the defence as well as the possibility of abuse thereof. He is currently an attorney-at-law admitted to the Leuven bar at the VDG-law office. His practice focusses on economic and financial criminal law. He is also qualified to practice before the Belgian Supreme Court (Court of Cassation) in criminal matters. Furthermore, he is an affiliated researcher at the Institute of Criminal Law of the KU Leuven. His current research mainly focuses on pretrial detention and the related right to access to a lawyer during police questioning.
